The Ops room at the Metropolitan Police Headquarters was busy with chatter from all the officers on the team both answering and making telephone calls. Every wall was decked out with large white boards containing names, photographs, arrows and dates.

‘Hudson, any progress on finding contacts of Stanfield and Carter?’

DI Stella Hudson looked up at DCI Thomas. ‘Sir, I’ve got a few mugshots for Mr Macrae to look at. I’ve also analysed the old video footage from street cameras that were close to the Beaver and Bulldog. There are certainly some people of interest that we need to follow up.’

‘Okay, what else?’

‘My team have been going through the national company register for any companies that Stanfield, Nash or Jack Carter might have been involved with. This might give us a better idea of any friends or acquaintances from the past who could have conceivably assisted Stanfield and Nash in their escape. This list is being analysed as we speak.’

‘What about any mercenaries that would be happy to be paid for aiding the escape?’

‘We’ve checked out all our snitches but have not turned anything up so far. The street is quiet.’

‘Keep the pressure on, Hudson.’

‘Yes, sir.’

‘Lastly, the information phone line that was set up for information, has that turned up anything yet?’

‘The reward offered, of course, is bringing up the usual cranks. Trouble is, it takes a lot of resources to follow up everything. I have to visit Birmingham tomorrow, so I’ll check in with James Macrae and show him the mugshots.

‘Good luck!’
